Since
the Earthquake which hit South Asia on the 8th October this year, Dr
Nadeem Iqbal and the CNM Relief Team have visited Pakistan, Kashmir and
other affected surrounding areas helping the victims of this terrible
disaster. They have so far managed to raise over £60,000, treat
thousands of people, set up shelter and have provided food, gas
cookers, blankets and homeopathic medicines to many of the injured and
homeless families.
Imran Khan & Dr Nadeem Iqbal of the CNM in Islamabad
During Dr Iqbal’s most recent visit to Pakistan he
met with Imran Khan, former Pakistan Cricket Team Captain, Politician
and Chancellor of the University of Bradford, who has strong links to
South Asia and who established the Shaukat Khannum Memorial Hospital,
the largest hospital for cancer patients in Asia. Imran has established
many medical camps with food and shelter in earthquake affected areas
and has over 50 medical doctors working out there. The CNM are pleased
to announce that Imran will be working with Dr Iqbal and the CNM Relief
Team to give even more support to the victims. During the next week,
their partnership will have set up four small tent villages together,
meaning housing for around 600 people. For the future the team has
planned to reconstruct the destroyed schools there with Imran’s
collaboration.
Since disaster struck over a month ago, hundreds
of thousands of people have been found dead and more than 3.5 million
have been left homeless. Many villages have been completely wiped out
and schools and buildings are still full of unclaimed bodies. It is
feared that the death toll will rise if homeless families are left to
bear the cold in the rapidly approaching mountainous winter months.
